Little bit of shame

I just read my favorite blog Allie's Answers and found a post about how she uses baking soda as an exfoliating face wash and olive oil as a moisturizer. I realized I am not as minimalistic as I would like to think and after I run out of my Dermalogica Microfoliant (which has a rating of 4 and is $49 for 2.6 oz.) I am going to switch to baking soda. Much better option.

I am going to spare you the details of my make-up cleaning. I have thrown out/freecycled all of my Lancome, Maybelline and L'Oreal products because I found out they aren't cruelty-free. (I know that it's not green to throw out perfectly good cosmetics, most of which are in plastic containers, but I am so guilt-ridden with the thought of using something that is tested on animals. I'll post more on why in a later blog.) Sigh. Most of it I won't miss, but I did love my Great Lash mascara. Oh well.

It's really hard to find lists of ingredients for makeup (which in itself is a little frightening), so in place of me going insane, I've decided to use the cosmetics I currently own made by companies that do not test on animals, and in future, consult the Cosmetci Safety Database before buying anything new. I know it's a compromise, but I can't sit here and try to read micro-print off the back of some eyeshadow packaging. It's a one-way ticket to a headache.

Tomorrow I am going to work on hair products. These ingredients are much easier to find.

Thanks for the link!

Baking soda is pretty amazing. Now that it's cooler and my skin is more prone to being dry, I'm not using it every day - only every three days or so, but it's a very good thing.

Sometimes, we all really want to be pampered. I really like Burt's Bees moisturizers too.

I am growing more and more partial to Burt's Bees. I'm a little wary about their face products though. A couple years back I bought the whole line that comes in the purple packaging, but it made me break out a bit. I need to try one product at a time. My skin is a little weird like that, too.
